Swain County's Land Use Plan

The Swain County Land Use Planning Committee has scheduled two community involvement sessions for Tuesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 20, 2010.

The meeting Tuesday evening will take place at the Swain County East Elementary School from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The meeting Thursday evening will be at the Swain County West Elementary School, also from 5:30 until 7:30.

The meeting will have an open house format and will provide Swain County residents with an opportunity to offer their insights and opinions on how they feel Swain County should develop in coming years. Prior to the current economic downturn, Bryson City and Swain County experienced steady growth in tourism, commercial and residential development. In anticipation of changing conditions in the area, the Land Use Planning Committee is in the process of updating the County’s land use plan. Committee members and County staff will be in attendance to provide information about the planning process and to exchange information and ideas with residents.

Interested persons are invited to visit either, or both, meetings anytime between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Swain County East Elementary is located at 4747 Ela Road, Whittier, NC. Swain County West Elementary is located at 4142 Highway 19 West, Bryson City, NC.
